CNN Plus will shut down just shy of one month online. The streaming service, which cost $6 per month, was?launched March 29, just before parent company?WarnerMedia merged with Discovery. The service will shut down April 28, according to CNN, two days earlier than employees were originally told.?
The streaming service, which featured news and original shows, may have been doomed from the start. David Zaslav, CEO of the new Warner Bros. Discovery, was “annoyed” with the launch of the platform just before the merger, Variety reported.
CNN Plus head Andrew Morse will reportedly leave Warner Bros. Discovery in the next week.
Subscription numbers for CNN Plus haven’t been released, but reports from earlier in April said fewer than 10,000 people were?using it daily. Subscriptions to the platform cost $6 per month, or $60 per year. Customers will receive prorated refunds, according to CNN.
The service, announced last summer, didn’t unlock access to any of CNN’s traditional channels but had its own live, on-demand and interactive programming, including a deep library of past CNN shows.
Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t respond to a request for comment.
