Global PC shipments totaled 74.3 million units in the third quarter of 2022, the International Data Corporation said Monday. It’s a slight increase from the?second quarter, but a 15% decline over the same period last year.?
The drop is a result of lower demand and continuing supply chain issues, but the market research company noted that shipment volumes remain well above the levels seen before the pandemic. Before 2020, PC volumes were largely driven by businesses upgrading due to end of support for Windows 7. Shipments reached their highest volume in almost a decade in 2021.
Lenovo has shipped the most PCs so far this year and held nearly 23% of the market share for the third quarter. HP and Dell?ranked second and third, with Apple and Asus in fourth and fifth place, according to IDC.?
“Supply has also reacted to the new lows by reducing orders with Apple being the only exception as their third quarter supply increased to make up for lost orders stemming from the lockdowns in China during the second quarter,” Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers, said in a statement.
