Apple marks 10th anniversary of Steve Jobs’ passing with homepage tribute

    Apple paid tribute to its late co-founder Steve Jobs on the 10th anniversary of his death with a homepage takeover?on Tuesday. The presentation includes a video that highlights his vision and showmanship, as well as a statement from his family.
    Jobs died on Oct. 5, 2011, at the age of 56, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Since then, the iPhone, Mac and iPad have been vital in making Apple into one of the most valuable companies in the world.
    Apple included a statement from Jobs’ family, talking about his legacy. “One of our greatest sources of consolation has been our association of Steve with beauty,” his family’s statement reads. “The sight of something beautiful — a wooded hillside, a well?made object — recalls his spirit to us. Even in his years of suffering, he never lost his faith in the beauty of existence.”

    Apple CEO Tim Cook, who took over as Jobs’ hand-picked successor in August 2011, sent a note to the company’s staff, saying “not a day goes by that I don’t think about” Jobs, and that he’s excited for what the company will do next. “Steve once said that his proudest achievements were the ones that were yet to come,” Cook wrote in the memo, earlier?reported by Bloomberg. “He spent every day imagining a future that no one else could see and working relentlessly to bring his vision to life.”
    Publicly, he also?tweeted the company’s video commemoration of Jobs.
    “‘People with passion can change the world for the better.’ — SJ. Hard to believe it’s been 10 years. Celebrating you today and always,” he wrote.
    Jony Ive, who worked closely with Jobs when he was Apple’s head of design, published his thoughts in a commentary with The Wall Street Journal on Monday. In it, he talked of how close his family is with Laurene Powell Jobs and their children. “I loved how he saw the world,” Ive said of Jobs, “The way he thought was profoundly beautiful.”
